Job Description:

Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Duration: 1 year (with potential extension up to 3 years)

Location: Preferred Edmonton, open to Calgary

Work Model: Hybrid

  • In-Office: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
  • Remote: Wednesday & Friday

Travel: Up to 10% (site visits within Canada; occasional U.S. travel may be required)

Driving Requirement: Yes - Driver's Abstract required


What You Will Do:

  • Own and manage relationships and contracts with Engineering Services Providers (ESP).
  • Lead the design review process with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, codes, and client's specifications, standards, and procedures-including process hazard operability and constructability.
  • Lead material specification and requisition by reviewing vendor quotes, evaluating technical bids, and providing recommendations based on technical merit, price, and delivery. Collaborate with Supply Chain for procurement.
  • Support planning and scheduling during design and procurement phases.
  • Provide technical support throughout all phases of the project: development, design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Manage ESPs in incorporating red-line markups into as-built drawings.
  • Contribute to the development of project scope, schedule, capital cost estimate, execution planning, and risk analysis during the development phase.
  • Support Operations with incident investigations post-handover.
  • Review and integrate lessons learned from previous projects to promote standardized, programmatic approaches in future designs.


Who You Are:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience designing power distribution systems in Oil & Gas, including hands-on analysis of control schematics (e.g., MV switchgear/motor control centers, electrical switchgear buildings, MV VFDs), controls, and systems integration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer designation with APEGA, or eligible for registration.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled facilitator and collaborator with the ability to influence decisions without formal authority.
  • Strong knowledge of national electrical codes (CEC, NEC) and standards (API, IEEE, UL, etc.).
