- Comfortable working with ambiguity in design requirements and real-world conditions.
- Apply strong engineering fundamentals to identify root causes and solve tough challenges.
- Take pride in seeing your designs through to production and customer implementation.
What You'll Do
- Lead mechanical hardware design from concept through production, collaborating with software, electrical, systems, testing, supply chain, and customer-facing teams.
- Develop customer-facing product requirements for large-scale mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Clearly communicate complex technical information to customers, ensuring alignment on design goals, trade-offs, and expectations.
- Define internal performance metrics for structural, thermal, mechanical, and control systems involving pneumatics, vacuum, hydraulics, and electrical components.
- Design and optimize systems using 3D CAD software.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including 2D drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure manufacturability and functionality of complex assemblies.
- Promote and maintain best practices in data management and documentation quality.
- Design and deploy End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT) for robotic applications.
- Create compute enclosures that address vibration, cooling, ingress protection, harnessing, and serviceability.
- Integrate sensors, cameras, and lighting solutions into mechanical designs.
- Generate wiring harness schematics for manufacturing use.
- Select and source commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components balancing technical and cost constraints.
- Validate mechanical components through rigorous testing procedures.
- Develop test fixtures and simulate customer manufacturing environments.
- Provide hands-on guidance on the floor to support:
- First article inspections
- Hardware readiness for deployment
- Inventory management
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven track record of delivering designs on schedule.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly to engineering challenges.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools with adaptability to new software platforms.
- Solid understanding of mechanical design principles including mechanisms, structural analysis, and thermal management.
- Experience with control systems that incorporate pneumatics, hydraulics, vacuum systems, and electromechanical components.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems to support harness and control system design.
- Experience solving thermal management challenges with both passive and active cooling strategies.
- Attention to detail and strong documentation practices.
- Willingness to conduct hands-on, on-site testing to ensure system-level success.
If you're excited about working on breakthrough technology that bridges hardware and robotics in real-world applications, we'd love to hear from you.
