Lighting Environments is seeking a licensed Electrical Engineer (PE) to join our team. This role bridges design expertise with code compliance, delivering innovative power and lighting control solutions that support our clients' vision from bid through construction.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Electrical Engineer will design and specify electrical and low-voltage systems for commercial and institutional spaces-spanning lighting controls, switchgear, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), Fault-managed Power (FMP), and DC-powered microgrids. You'll work closely with our sales and project teams, as well as specifiers and contractors, to bring smart, efficient, and forward-thinking solutions to life.
A day in the life may include:
- Designing lighting control layouts, riser diagrams, and technical specifications
- Performing takeoffs and plan reviews for bid-stage estimating
- Creating submittals, system drawings, and documentation
- Serving as a technical resource on lighting control, PoE, FMP, and integration strategies
- Collaborating with manufacturers and project stakeholders to ensure accurate, code-compliant solutions
- Stamping electrical design drawings to meet code and PE requirements
- Participating in client meetings, presentations, and site walk-throughs

WHERE AND HOW YOU'LL WORK
This is a hybrid role based in Baltimore, MD, with a mix of office and remote work. Candidates must be able to work from our Baltimore office.
TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, YOU HAVE
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 5+ of experience designing electrical systems, including lighting control systems for commercial buildings
- Proficiency with construction documents, technical specifications, and system schematics
- Familiarity with NEC, IES standards, and local building codes
- Experience with lighting control platforms and design tools (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD or Revit)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage cross-functional teams and clients
BONUS POINTS FOR HAVING
- Experience designing building power infrastructure including switchgear, panels, and emergency systems
- Knowledge of PoE, fault-managed power (FMP), and DC microgrid systems
- Experience with renewable energy, battery storage, and NetZero design strategies
- Experience with lighting design tools (e.g., Agi32, DIALux)
