Mechanical Engineer (MCMG)
Location: Elora, Ontario
The Mechanical Engineer is essential for supporting the design and execution of mechanical projects within the food and beverage industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design all types of mechanical systems and equipment selection for use in various types of food or beverage plants including HVAC (offices/production areas, heat loss/gain, duct design), underground plumbing (storm, sanitary, process sanitary, grease interceptors) and plumbing systemsinvolving domestic hot/cold water, hydronic heating and cooling/glycol systems, high pressure wash system, water treatment systems (softening, reverse osmosis), natural gas facility distribution.
- Process hot water and steam boiler equipment selection, including steam/condensate piping design and component selection.
- Conduct final inspection and recommend acceptance or rejection of completed designs.
- Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide seamless quality engineering services.
- Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data.
- Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
- Evaluate various mechanical products under consideration for purchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Determine budget requirements for mechanical systems and submit budgetary recommendations as well as monitor and be responsible for budgets throughout the project.
- Work closely with architectural, electrical, civil, and structural disciplines to ensure building projects are completed to the client's satisfaction.
- Coach junior engineers and work closely with project technologists to develop plans to the client's satisfaction.
- Evaluate process equipment for use by clients and make recommendations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Licensed professional engineer in good standing with the Professional Engineers Ontario.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of hands-on engineering experience in the food or pharmaceutical industry, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of Ontario Building Code for Plumbing and HVAC, Ontario Fire Code, CFIA, ASHRAE STD as applied to HVAC and Refrigeration, NFPA, OSHA, TSSA, CSA Standard for fuel-related appliances and equipment.
- Understanding of Ammonia and Halocarbon refrigeration systems.
- Proven track record of managing large project budgets.
- Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
- AutoCAD and Revit experience.
- MS Office(Outlook, Project, Word, Excel).
