Process Engineer - Flare and Overpressure Relief Systems

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Duration: 2 year contract (January 2026 - January 2028)

Work Type: Onsite, full time

We are seeking a senior level Process Engineer to provide technical assurance and process safety support for flare and overpressure relief systems within a major upgrader operation. The role will focus on safeguarding critical process equipment, leading risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards.

Responsibilities include:

• PRV/PVSV sizing and overpressure relief evaluations
• Flare system design and contractor guidance
• Facilitation of PHAs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, Bowties, and other risk workshops
• Assurance for pumps, tanks, and pressure vessels
• Fire, explosion, and dispersion modelling (FRED, PHAST or equivalent)
• Mentoring junior engineers and supporting commissioning/start up activities

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
• 7+ years of process safety/engineering experience in refining, upgrading, or petrochemicals
• APEGA P.Eng. designation required, with ability to authenticate engineering work
• Familiarity with HYSYS, Unisym, Flarenet
• Strong knowledge of API/ASME codes and standards
• Proven facilitation, communication, and leadership skills
