Process Engineer - Flare and Overpressure Relief Systems
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Duration: 2 year contract (January 2026 - January 2028)
Work Type: Onsite, full time
We are seeking a senior level Process Engineer to provide technical assurance and process safety support for flare and overpressure relief systems within a major upgrader operation. The role will focus on safeguarding critical process equipment, leading risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards.
Responsibilities include:
- PRV/PVSV sizing and overpressure relief evaluations
- Flare system design and contractor guidance
- Facilitation of PHAs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, Bowties, and other risk workshops
- Assurance for pumps, tanks, and pressure vessels
- Fire, explosion, and dispersion modelling (FRED, PHAST or equivalent)
- Mentoring junior engineers and supporting commissioning/start up activities
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- 7+ years of process safety/engineering experience in refining, upgrading, or petrochemicals
- APEGA P.Eng. designation required, with ability to authenticate engineering work
- Familiarity with HYSYS, Unisym, Flarenet
- Strong knowledge of API/ASME codes and standards
- Proven facilitation, communication, and leadership skills
