Pay Band $47.00 - $65.00 per hour


Overview

My Client a professional mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm providing services to architects and building owners in the building service industry. With a comprehensive list of completed projects ranging from residential, educational, institutional, recreational, and commercial. Company provides full service mechanical and electrical consulting for buildings


Role Overview

A confident lead mechanical engineer/lead mechanical designer with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience completing mechanical engineering in the building service industry.


The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Lead the design on projects with mechanical construction values in excess of $1,000,000.
  • Respond to and win Requests for Proposals.
  • Provide technical direction to a minimum of 2 subordinates on a daily basis.
  • Integrate well into a multi-disciplinary team of both internal and external consultants.
  • Manage owner and client relationships.
  • Manage contractor relationships.
  • Conduct site reviews, manage change notices, etc.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Be knowledgeable in applicable building, CSA, ASHRAE and NFPA codes.
  • Size and select all equipment required for the mechanical systems serving the building.
  • Size and design all ductwork, piping, and other systems required for the building.
  • Design a variety of mid or high rise residential, commercial, or institutional/educational buildings. Work will be a mixture of renovation and new construction.

Qualifications

This role would require an individual with the interpersonal skills (verbal and written) to effectively communicate with the project team, other project disciplines, and owners. Specifically, the ideal candidate would be able to think critically and analytically with exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills.

Qualifications and required skills:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), or Limited Engineering License/Technologist (LEL, LET).
  • Ten (10) plus years of mechanical engineering experience in the building service industry.
  • Extensive technical knowledge and ability to deliver mechanical designs for a variety of building types, including, but not limited to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, plumbing and drainage systems, building automation systems / controls, and fire protection systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian and Ontario codes and standards including OBC, SB-1 and SB-4 supplementary standards, NFPA 13, NFPA 14, CSA B149.1, ASHRAE 62.1, and ASHRAE 90.1.
  • Proven ability to lead a team of mechanical staff in the development and delivery of construction documentation and associated engineering calculations, coordination of mechanical elements, and final verification of mechanical design of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to think analytically, attention to detail, resourceful and detail-oriented, and team and customer service focused.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, architectural, and structural drawings and systems as it relates to construction and the implications on mechanical designs.
  • Ability to effectively resolve construction issues, manage client expectations, review construction sites, liaise with contractors, and other contract administration requirements.
