Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for an RF Engineer (Radomes).

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego, CA office and reports to our Director of Engineering.

Position Summary:

As an RF Engineer at Rock West Composites, you will play a pivotal role in developing, designing, analyzing, and testing high performance radomes built by our company. Ideal candidates will be electrical engineers with an understanding of low dielectric materials and their effects on antenna performance. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys solving multi-disciplinary engineering challenges.

This position will also lead the expansion of Rock West's electrical analysis and test capabilities of antennas/radome structures in selecting 3-D EM analysis computer codes, upgrading our RF testing capability, and performing detailed EM analyses required by our customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform radome optimization analysis of radome constructions that achieve key performance parameters for our customers. Rock West has a proven optimization code to optimize designs for minimum insertion loss or minimum RF reflection return.
  • Conduct or contract for 3-D computer analyses that characterize all the different parameters of antenna performance with and without a radome present.
  • Act as a liaison/collaborator with mechanical/structural engineers, both internally and with our customers, in communicating key interface issues, pertinent drawing notes, and defining acceptance testing protocols.
  • Devise and conduct RF testing to characterize the effects of radomes on antenna performance.
  • Specify test plans for an outside company to perform RF testing to meet our customers' requirements.
  • Support proposals for radomes and related structures.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or similar.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in design and test of antennas, radomes, and/or electromagnetic materials.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in customer interactions.
  • Knowledge of low dielectric materials such as glass/epoxy, quartz/cyanate ester, ceramics.
  • Familiarity with integrated radome features such as polarizers, frequency selective surfaces, absorber materials.

Other Requirements:

  • Self-starter with the ability to identify challenges and priorities.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be a US Person (Resident Alien or US Citizen).
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position falls within $120,000 - $160,000. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
