The pay for this position ranges from $90,000 - $105,000.

Overview

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer to join the Power Plant Test and Operations Engineering team. This position will provide on-site technical support for a fleet of molten carbonate fuel cell power generation, biogas fuel, hydrogen generation, and carbon capture facilities. The role is focused on continual improvement of electrical balance of plant equipment reliability. The position will be working with low to medium voltage equipment. Review of performance data, on-site electrical inspection and installation, engineering design, and interdisciplinary coordination are core functions of the role. In addition to support of an existing fleet of facilities, the role will assist in the development of next-generation facilities for decarbonizing energy and producing hydrogen.

Responsibilities:
  • You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the installation, start-up commissioning, operation, and service of advanced fuel cell-based systems for power generation, hydrogen production, and carbon capture applications.
  • This position requires flexibility to work on multiple projects, covering a range of systems and technologies, in various stages of the design or validation process.
  • Designs, evaluates, and supports electrical systems and equipment used for power generation and voltage conversion including inverters and supports low to medium voltage system and equipment.
  • Develops engineering drawings including electrical one-line and three-line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, and equipment wiring diagrams.
  • Performs analyses and/or calculations to determine component requirements and routing for electrical equipment including but not limited to cables, breakers, transformers, and conduits.
  • Specifies and/or performs arc flash analyses for low to medium voltage systems.
  • Prepares documentation and records of verification and validation for new product design and engineering changes to existing products.
  • Onsite evaluation of existing electrical components, systems, and processes and leads and or supports root cause investigations to address performance, reliability, and equipment life shortfalls.
  • Recommends or selects components and equipment based on system and component specifications.
  • Analyze the programming of electrical equipment such as variable frequency drives for optimization opportunities.
  • Conduct mechanical assembly utilizing power and manual tools.
  • Contribute to constant upgrading of product documentation.
  • Ensure quality and compliance to parameter and codes preceding turnover client establishment.
  • Improves existing control systems using Engineering Change and configuration control processes.
  • Prepares and maintains Engineering design documentation.
  • Supports troubleshooting and resolution of EE-related Field Issues including performing root cause analysis, onsite support of troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Create specifications and drawings (schematics, loop sheets, panel drawings, etc.) for PLC and relay logic control systems used in fuel cell control systems.
  • Ensures that systems are developed in accordance with best safety practices. This includes participating in Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) reviews.
  • Design and coordinate test procedures for improved reliability of SureSource power plants.
  • Works with suppliers and contractors to develop and troubleshoot improvements to SureSource power plants.
  • Prepares technical reports and presentations to communicate designs/results to internal and external stakeholders. Assists with writing project proposals.
  • Performs other duties and projects, as assigned.
  • Domestic and international travel required up to 40%.
Qualifications: Education & Experience:

B.S Degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or related Engineering discipline and 5 years' relevant experience; Or 10 years relevant technical & engineering experience. Experience in power systems diagnosis and troubleshooting required.

Required Experience and Characteristics:
  • Experience in the engineering level design and control of power systems.
  • Electrical Systems Design: Single Line & Three Line Drawings, Wiring & Interconnect Drawings, Electrical Layouts & Details, Power Distribution Drawings, Panel Layout & Design Drawings, Arc Flash Safety and Calculations.
  • Power Metering and Controls.
  • National Electrical Code and Safety Standards, UL 1741, IEEE 1547, and NFPA 70 & 79.
  • Engineering Documentation Processes engineering principles to design integrated systems.
  • Demonstrated testing, validation, product launch, support, and continuous improvement experience.
  • Electrical drawings and documentation (e.g., Single Line, Three Line, Wiring & Interconnect Drawings).
  • Experience with root cause analysis, containment and corrective action development.
  • Must be able to communicate on a technical level with electrical, instrumentation & control, mechanical and process engineers and organize immediate and long term troubleshooting with these disciplines.
  • Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to work effectively and openly with others, both internally and externally.
  • Good presentation skills to effectively communicate ideas and scientific findings.
  • Team player who works willingly with others and keeps a positive, goal-focused outlook when tackling challenging, time-sensitive engineering problems.
  • Flexible and adaptable to rapidly shift gears into multi-disciplinary roles based on current project requirements.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a valid passport and travel internationally without restriction is required.
Working Environment/Working Conditions:
  • On-site technical support at an operating hydrogen, power and heat generating facility.
  • Desk work using a computer.
  • Remote On-call support is required on a rotating schedule.
  • Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required.
  • Travel: Up to 30-50% domestic and international. Travel via car and/or commercial airlines.
  • Have or be able to obtain a Passport.
