About the role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a highly motivated Drainage Engineer looking for career advancement, in our Crystal Lake, Chicago, Naperville, or Mokena, Illinois offices. This position primarily consists of leading phase I and phase II drainage analysis and design tasks for a variety of transportation projects for State, County, and Local Agencies. Experience designing drainage components of transportation design projects is required. This team orientated position will include working with Baxter & Woodman's diverse disciplines and offices.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Develop hydrologic and hydraulic models of municipal storm sewer and sanitary collection systems.
  • Analyze and design stormwater facilities (open channels, culverts, storm sewers, detention basins, green infrastructure, etc.) and proposed improvement projects.
  • Manage/complete IDOT Hydraulic Reports, Location Drainage Studies, Location Drainage Technical Memorandums, and other drainage studies.
  • Identify permitting requirements and prepare permit application submittals for roadway improvements and transportation drainage projects.
  • Assist the firm's transportation department by managing and completing engineering plans, specifications and cost estimates using IDOT Standards.
  • Assist with preparing proposals, scope and fee, and participate in interviews for drainage related projects.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and provide QA/QC review for work performed by others.
  • Communicate with clients and regulatory agencies.

Education Requirement

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering

Must-haves, what you will bring

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with roadway and infrastructure design.
  • Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman's service area (own transportation).
  • Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong written, verbal, computer, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Work within a Team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred but not required.
  • Experience obtaining permits related to drainage design, floodplain/floodway, and wetland impacts, including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 and IDNR-OWR Floodway Construction permits.
  • Microstation/Geopak, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, and HY-8 capabilities with an understanding of IDOT workflow preferred.

Compensation: The pay range for this role is $83,200 - $112,320. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
