Job Overview


Our client, a well-established company in the mining sector specializing in potash extraction, is seeking a Senior Mine Engineer to join their team at one of their potash mining sites. Operating in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, the company is focused on the efficient extraction and production of potash, a key component in agricultural fertilizers.

This position reports directly to the Chief Mine Engineer.


Key Responsibilities


The role will primarily focus on mine ventilation, where you will serve as the subject matter expert for projects related to the ventilation system's design, maintenance, and expansion.


Responsibilities include:


  • Develop mine ventilation designs, ground support systems, and mining layouts.
  • Represent the Mine Engineering department on multidisciplinary project teams, contributing to project scope, scheduling, inspections, and integration of geotechnical, ventilation, and surveying requirements.
  • Lead underground mining projects from initiation through to completion.
  • Conduct field inspections to evaluate ventilation controls and ground conditions, ensuring compliance with company standards and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Install and monitor instrumentation to gather ventilation data, interpret results, and provide recommendations.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to mine operations.
  • Collaborate with mine planning personnel to develop and execute both long-term and short-term mine plans.
  • Promote and uphold a strong safety culture, working effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance and support.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Mining or Geological Engineering.
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with the relevant regulatory authority.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an underground mining environment (5+ years preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of underground mine ventilation systems and design.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and willingness to work in underground settings.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to lead teams effectively.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD software; experience with mine planning software is considered an asset.
