Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Hazlehurst, GA

Reports to: Engineering Manager / Maintenance Manager / Plant Manager

Department: Engineering / Maintenance

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of electrical systems that support the manufacturing of advanced composites and technical fabrics. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment including weaving, lamination, coating, and custom-built machinery. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and a hands-on approach to support continuous improvement and innovation in a dynamic production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Systems Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical systems, control panels, PLCs, motors, sensors, drives, and instrumentation used in textile and composite manufacturing.
  • Respond to equipment failures and production interruptions, leading root cause analysis and implementing permanent solutions.
  • Design & Upgrades
  • Design or modify control systems, electrical schematics, and automation interfaces for production machinery.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers and vendors to integrate new machines or upgrade existing systems with modern controls and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Process Control & Automation
  • Program and optimize PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and other control systems to enhance machine performance and product quality.
  • Support implementation of smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives where applicable.
  • Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure all electrical systems comply with local codes, NFPA, OSHA, NEC, and other applicable safety standards.
  • Develop preventive maintenance programs and electrical safety protocols for shop-floor personnel.
  • Project & Vendor Management
  • Manage capital projects related to electrical systems, from concept through commissioning.
  • Work with external contractors and OEMs to ensure timely, cost-effective project execution.
  • Documentation & Training
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all systems including wiring diagrams, manuals, and system configurations.
  • Provide training to maintenance staff and machine operators on new systems and safety practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment (preferably textiles, composites, or materials processing).
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.), VFDs, motor controls, and HMI systems.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent).

Preferred:

  • Experience with textile manufacturing processes such as weaving, knitting, laminating, or coating.
  • Familiarity with energy management systems and predictive maintenance tools.
  • Knowledge of automation and integration technologies (SCADA, IIoT, MES systems).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or working toward certification.

Working Conditions

  • On-site in a manufacturing facility, with hands-on involvement on the production floor.
  • Some exposure to high-voltage systems and rotating equipment.
  • Occasional travel to vendors, contractors, or off-site facilities.
