Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Stanley, NC (on-site) OR Salem, NC

Pay Rate: Starting at $50/hr

Contract Duration: 3 years


Job Summary:

Duke Energy is seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in electrical engineering, with a strong background in design review, generator step-up transformers (GSU), and transmission systems. This role requires the ability to write specifications, review designs, and work across cross-functional teams. Experience in nuclear and hydro backgrounds is highly desirable.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct design reviews and provide feedback on electrical systems.
  • Review and evaluate designs for generator step-up transformers (GSU).
  • Write detailed specifications for electrical projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Present technical information and project updates to stakeholders.
  • Travel once a week to various project sites.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams.
  • Develop and implement electrical engineering solutions to improve system reliability and efficiency.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of electrical issues.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of maintenance and upgrade projects.
  • Ensure all engineering activities align with industry standards and best practices.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Strong experience in design review and generator step-up transformers (GSU).
  • Experience in writing specifications for electrical projects.
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor and within cross-functional teams.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Specification development and/or technical writing experience.
  • High voltage equipment experience.
  • Powerplant experience.
  • Power generation experience (hydro or otherwise).
  • Familiarity with ETAP or SKM software.
  • Arc flash experience.
  • System protection experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in transmission systems.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Experience in nuclear and hydro backgrounds is highly desirable.
  • Construction experience.


Work Schedule:

  • Travel once a week to various project sites.
