Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Location: Stanley, NC (on-site) OR Salem, NC
Pay Rate: Starting at $50/hr
Contract Duration: 3 years
Job Summary:
Duke Energy is seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in electrical engineering, with a strong background in design review, generator step-up transformers (GSU), and transmission systems. This role requires the ability to write specifications, review designs, and work across cross-functional teams. Experience in nuclear and hydro backgrounds is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct design reviews and provide feedback on electrical systems.
- Review and evaluate designs for generator step-up transformers (GSU).
- Write detailed specifications for electrical projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
- Present technical information and project updates to stakeholders.
- Travel once a week to various project sites.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams.
- Develop and implement electrical engineering solutions to improve system reliability and efficiency.
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of electrical issues.
- Participate in the planning and execution of maintenance and upgrade projects.
- Ensure all engineering activities align with industry standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical engineering.
- Strong experience in design review and generator step-up transformers (GSU).
- Experience in writing specifications for electrical projects.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor and within cross-functional teams.
- Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Specification development and/or technical writing experience.
- High voltage equipment experience.
- Powerplant experience.
- Power generation experience (hydro or otherwise).
- Familiarity with ETAP or SKM software.
- Arc flash experience.
- System protection experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in transmission systems.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
- Experience in nuclear and hydro backgrounds is highly desirable.
- Construction experience.
Work Schedule:
- Travel once a week to various project sites.
